We were eBay power sellers for several years with multiple stores and we left the marketplace. We definitively supported eBay's decision to cleanup the auction site, too many scammers, too many fake products, and too many extremely bad sellers. But eBay went too far.
The biggest challenge is the annihilation of sellers customer support. Today help comes from canned messages, poor chat and phone response. Unfortunately, support is needed when things don't go smoothly with transactions. ebay nft marketplace
The second challenge is that buyers can leave feedbacks and Detailed Seller Ratings (DSR) they wish without any kind of control from eBay even if the seller has proof that the transaction was perfect or if the buyer didn't pay.
The third challenge is the increasing number of abusing buyers. Today on eBay there is no way for sellers to enforce their return policies. If a buyer returns an item eBay and PayPal will give a full refund even if it's 3 months after the purchase or if the buyer claims it has no further needs for it.
The fourth challenge is the increasing number of non-paying buyers. As these people can still leave negative feedbacks, sellers don't file for dispute and still pay the heavy Final Value Fees.
The fifth challenge is the increase in fees. Since a year our fees increased by 40% while our sales increased by 10%.
The sixth challenge is the increasing number of abuse reports that eBay refuse to investigate. We had US designed and made products reported by a Verified Rights Owner (VeRO) based in Sweden! eBay's only assistance is asking to contact the VeRO. A bouncing email address being the only way to communicate with that VeRO!
The seventh challenge is the contract signed between eBay and Buy.com. This company pays a small fraction of what other sellers pay. Competition becomes impossible. Also, this company abuses eBay's rules without having to deal with eBay wrath - during the summer of 2008, Buy.com posted pornographic books which normally leads to account cancellation.
The eight challenge is eBay's obscure search ranking. One of our stores went from raised search to lowered search with 100% feedback, and DSR of 4.9 of 5 in all four criteria. That store qualified for the special 20% FVF discount but was lowered in search ranking. When asked, eBay replied we had to improve our DSR!
We enjoyed selling on eBay and it was a good business model for us unfortunately, eBay lost our confidence, we don't see eBay as THE marketplace to sell and the other venues we investigated such as our websites bring more than what eBay can offer with much less problems and risks.
