Mount Arafat (Jabal-Ar-Rahmah)


Mount Arafat, also recognized as Jabal ar-Rahmah, Mount Arafat is situated in the southeast of Makkah. On the 9th of Dhul Hajj, hajjis leave Mina for Mount Arafat, where they stand and perform a thoughtful vigil and recite the Holy Quran. Meaning of the Word Arafat:

Mount Arafat is also normally known as Jabal Arafat, which means the “Mountain of Mercy.”


 


Location of Mount Arafat:


Mount Arafat has situated about 20 km southeast of Makkah. To be exact, it is located between Taif and Makkah, at a distance of 10 km from Mina, 6 km from Muzdalifah, and 22 km from Makkah.


 


Mountain of Mercy (Mount Arafat):


Muslims also believe in that the mountain is the place where they were forgiven and forgotten. Therefore, the name Jabal-AR-Rahmah means "Mountain of Mercy".


 


Arafat Significance during Hajj:


Mount Arafat has special significance during Hajj. Walking towards Arafat (Jabal-AR-Rahmah) and standing staying there to pray is an important part of Hajj; as said by Prophet Muhammad PBUH, “Hajj is Arafat.” This means that whoever misses the part of standing on Mount Arafat, they miss Hajj.


 


What Takes place at Mount Arafat?


On Mount Arafat, hajjis pass their day making Dua. They offer to combine the Zohar and ASR prayers and stand till sunset, face towards the Qibla, seeking mercy and requesting Allah SWT to shower his blessings over them.


 


Significance of Mount Arafat in Islam?


Reaching Mount Arafat provides hajjis with the genuine feeling of satisfaction about Hajj. It is also identified as the place where all prayers will be fulfilled by Allah SWT.


 


Arafat Special Mountain for Dua:


Mount Arafat is a special mountain for Dua as Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and Prophet Muhammad PBUH made Dua at this very mountain. The benefit of this place is requested from Allah SWT, and His reply is promised. So it is recommended that when praying at Mount Arafat, haji’s heart should be pure and filled with nothing but neediness. Hajji should thank Allah SWT for all the blessings and requests for his mercy.
