Black pod disease, caused by the fungal pathogen Phytophthora palmivora, is one of the most devastating diseases affecting cocoa plants (Theobroma cacao), the source of cocoa beans used in chocolate production. This disease not only poses a significant threat to cocoa farmers' livelihoods but also affects the global chocolate industry.
